Crenova XPE460 Review – Exceeded My Expectations (Price, Lumens)

crenova xpe460 review

So the Crenova XPE460, no matter what price they’re paying, consumers still want quality, so the budget projector market is a difficult one to cater for. There’s lot’s an option, many of which fall far short of the mark, because of cost-cuts in entirely the wrong areas. Pre-release Crenova we were pretty optimistic that they’d created a projector, with some excellent features, but I was skeptical because of the price of around $175, and suspected that to sell at such a low price, they must have left something major out. This Crenova XPE460 Review, will inform buyers as to whether or not this is true, the deal they’ve dreamt of. This product in all my projector reviews was fun to do.

Pros:

  • Large 130 inch screen size
  • Easy set-up
  • Comes with HDMI cable
  • Very portable
  • Supports 1080p HD
  • Good connectivity

Cons:

  • 1200 Lumens
  • On larger screen sizes some distortions will occur

Overall Impression:

Size and Design:

The first thing you notice when you take it out of the box, is that the design is very classical. In fact, it looks exactly like those old projectors buyers might have seen at school in the 1990’s, and this is not a bad thing, as projectors back then where built to be durable. The difference is in the portability; whereas projectors in the 1990’s, tended to be bulky, the XPE460, weighs only 2.8 pounds out of the box, and its measurements are just 8.34 inches of length, by 3.07 inch of width, and the depth is 5.90 inches. So, buyers will find it relatively easy to carry around for use wherever they may need it.

Performance:

The Crenova XPE460 LED video projector is very easy to set-up, if you read the manual and follow the instructions carefully. It includes Keystone Correction and this is simple to operate, so adjust the image as you see fit, and you’re up and running. Once you’ve completed the set-up, you have a device that offers 800×480 native resolution, so not HD, but for the low price you’ve paid this is excellent. There are many projectors costing twice the price of this, that have 800×480 resolution, and with the included HDMI cable, the XPE460 will support full HD 1080p. What they mean by the word ‘support’, is that by hooking the XPE460 up to an HD device like a Blu-ray player, it will show images at something close to 1080p, although not quite there. I must however say again, that for this price, the 1080p support, is nothing short of amazing.

If you think that was amazing, you’re also getting a 130 inch maximum screen size, although there is a downside to this. If you’re viewing without the HDMI cable, the 800×480 native resolution of the Crenova XPE460, will begin to struggle to produce clarity once you increase the screen size to over 100 inches. Of course, if you’re typically viewing projected images on less than 100 inches of screen size, or if you’re using the HDMI cable, you won’t notice any distortions.

You get 1200 Lumens for under $200. What this enables buyers to do, is to view in natural light, on days that aren’t sunny or particularly bright, so you could take the XPE460 out in the evening time for back garden movies. On some afternoons, you won’t have to concern yourself with drawing the curtains. On other days, when the sun is out, lights will need to be turned off and curtains drawn, for viewing to take place.

If you have a Ipod, tablet, or smartphone, you can hook these up easily to the XPE460, using a wireless adapter, not included with the purchase, but relatively cheap. Follow the instructions, and you’ll be able to stream movies directly to the projector, give presentations from Powerpoint, and generally do all the things you’d ordinarily do on your mobile devices, on the large screen provided with the Crenova projector XPE460. Not bad for the price.

Final Verdict:

This is probably not the best projector but more so the best value projector on the market. 1200 Lumens, 1080p support, 130 inches of screen size, connectivity to mobile devices, and a native resolution of 800×480 represents a wonderful deal for under $150. It would be great for people just getting into projection, those on a budget, or enthusiasts looking for a back-up device if they’re main projector breaks down. Excellent purchase opportunity in the Crenova XPE460.
