An Ultra short throw projector is different from a short throw or dlp projector, you can read more about the techonology and concept behind them here. These projectors are relatively new in the market and can be considered as using state of the art technologies. Because these projectors are new entrants to the existing projector market, there are only a handful of flagship devices mainly produced by reputed brands. This articles compiles the best ultra short projectors in the market today.
Best Ultra Short Throw Projector Devices
Sony 4K Ultra Short Throw Projector: This projector was recently revealed in CES 2015(January) and is currently available only in the New York Metropolitan Area. Also, it comes for a steep price of about $50000, which easily makes it the most expensive projector in the market today. Now that we all this out of the way, lets talk about what the device has to offer! To begin with, this 4K ultra short projector looks absolutely stunning, can work from a distance of about 1.5m ( 60 inches), can project images onto any given wall, has a resolution of 4096 x 2160 pixels (hence 4K) and also includes a laser light source. These specifications are unsurpassed and they make this device the leader in ultra short projection technology. Although it remains a luxurious and expensive choice. And cheaper alternatives exist.
LG Hecto: LG Hecto is a strange device both in the terms of the looks and fucntionality. It can be considered an ultra short throw projector though it functions more like a traditional television set, this is to say that the projector comes with its own 100 inch projector screen and will only function on the provided screen. This is only a minor bump in the road given all else the device has to offer. The projector can function from a distance of just 22 inches, it uses lasers and mirrors to achieve this feat. The light is strong and is barely effected by ambient light or shadows, one can easily walk around the room without effecting the projection in any way.
ViewSonic PJD8653ws: While the projectors from Sony and LG are unique flagship devices, we felt the need to include an affordable option as well. This brings us to ViewSonic PJD8653WS which provides 3000 Lumens, 16 w sound, 1280 x 800 resolution and ultra short throw projection – all this for a very low price from Amazon. Also, unlike the LG hecto, this device also supports 3D technology.
Like we mentioned before in our ultra short throw projector review, these projectors are very new to the market and there exist only a handful of fully-functional devices. Some other devices include the Epson Powerlite series and Hitachi Ultimate short throw projectors. We believe that with time the prices shall go down (as they always do) and ultra short throw projectors will soon become the preferred option over general long-range projectors.
