ViewSonic PA503S/W/X Projector Review

ViewSonic PA503 Projector Review

ViewSonic has always been a brand with a permanent fixture on any best-selling projector list. The company is known to produce cost-effective functional projectors that provide great value for money. The PA503 model is no different. Here is the ViewSonic PA503 projector review:

Pros:

  • Super bright at 3600 lumens ( bright enough to be clearly visible in a well-lit room.)
  • has zoom in/out feature
  • great for backyard movie nights
  • many connectivity options (HMDI, VGA, mini-USB)
  • value for money

Cons:

  • Weak 2W internal speakers
  • Needs to be put far away from the screen as the throw-ratio is low

Overall Impression ViewSonic PA503-

Size and Design:

Weighing at around 7 pounds, the ViewSonic PA503 isn’t the lightest projector and tends to be on the heavier side. Then again, it is not promoted as a portable projector.

It’s design features include a host of connectivity options and manual zoom which makes for an easy set-up. In the box, it comes with a power cable, VGA cable and a remote with extensive menu options. The in-built fan makes little to no noise which is an added bonus.

Performance:

Because it comes in 3 different variations (SVGA, WXGA and XGA), the projector is easy to recommend for a variety of purposes. If you have the budget, go for the XGA version which provides the highest resolution. If you are looking to save some money then consider the uses for this projector. For outdoor movie and sports nights, the SVGA version should suffice as most people won’t notice the slightly lower resolution. For office presentations however, I would recommend the WXGA or XGA version because smaller fonts and icons can be hard to decipher on a lower resolution.

The weak projector speakers are a problem though, as you may need to carry speakers around if you do offsite meetings and conferences. For most home set-ups though, it is highly recommended to use external speakers.

The lamp life is said to be 15,000 hours but that’s only in eco-mode. Eco-mode generally means using this projectors in lamp saving mode which equals lower brightness. This negates the best feature of this projector, which is it’s high brightness. When using this projector in normal mode, the lamp life is touted at being around 5,000 hours.

Finally the images projected by this device are of an exceptional quality. Thanks to the high brightness and high contrast ratio (22000:1) of this projector.

Final Verdict:

For the price that it comes in, the ViewSonic PA503 provides exceptional value for money. Whether you are purchasing this for outdoor movie nights or office presentations, the ViewSonic PA503 is likely to deliver.
