A Deep Dive Into The Garmin Vivofit 2

Many thanks for joining us on out test and review of the Garmin Vivofit 2 Activity monitor. Garmin were one of the first companies to recognise the need to motivate the general public in to activity, too long do we sit behind out desks sometimes spending hours without moving. The Vivofit 2 addresses that issue and will provide motivation to keep you moving and active throughout the day.

NEW PRODUCT > The Garmin Vivofit 2 has been replaced by the Vivofit 3. There’s not much difference in the way of functionality, more cosmetic. The Vivofit 3 has a smaller perpendicular display and is available with many custom strap designs. If you’re happy with the functionality of this Vivofit 2 I’d suggest you grab a bargain while they’re still available.

  • Who Is It For?

  • Video Review

Just like the Polar Loop and the previous Garmin Vivofit, the Vivofit 2 is for the person that wants to get fitter, look better and feel healthier.

The Vivofit 2 is a smart and discrete activity monitor that is conveniently available in 2 sizes, SMALL and LARGE to accommodate all wrist sizes. It’s perfectly suitable for every age group from teenage upwards.

Sometimes all we need is a subtle reminder that we haven’t exercised, or, let’s face it, MOVED enough in the last couple of hours.

Once you own a good quality activity tracker like the Vivofit 2 you may well be surprised at how much time you spend just SITTING. The Vivofit 2 will motivate you to get up, even if just to stretch your legs around the office for 5 minutes.

So, the answer to the question ‘Who’s the Vivofit 2 for?” …. EVERYONE who wants to get a little bit fitter and live a healthier lifestyle.

Getting more from your Vivofit 2

In this second video Garmin take us beyond the basics to help the owner achieve their daily activity goals.

You will see how to get more from your activity tracker by challenging friends, timing activities, counting daily calorie burn or by pairing your activity band with a chest strap heart rate monitor.

Best Features and Functions

We like the intelligent way that the Vivofit 2 learns about you and your lifestyle. There’s no point in an activity tracker telling you to exercise for 1 hour every day before breakfast and after dinner (unless you’re a pro-athlete).

The Vivofit 2 learns about your current activity level and then sets ACHIEVABLE DAILY GOALS. Fitness is all about baby steps. There’s no point trying to go from zero couch potato to hero 10K champion of Norfolk in 10 weeks.

Those type of unachievable goals result, generally, in two things, disappointment and injury. Let the Vivofit 2 set a sensible daily goal for you, achieve it and see how your fitness improves.

  • 1-year battery life
  • A subtle reminder when it’s time to stay active with the move bar and audible alert
  • The Vivofit 2 has the ability to learns your activity level and set a personal daily goal
  • Get a breakdown of steps, calories, distance and time of day
  • With Bluetooth™ wirless synch to Garmin Connect™ so you can share and view your progress in detail
  • Could have been better?

Nothing really, we like it is as it is. That being a clever, motivational and discrete activity monitor. It does precisely what it was designed to do and that is help keep the owner motivated and guide them to a fitter and healthier lifestyle by adding small segments of exercise / movement throughout the day

    Next Model UP

The next model up is the Vivosmart. The Vivosmart has the additional Bluetooth™ functions of SMART notifications, alerting you when your phone receives a call, text or email.

Both the Vivofit and Vivosmart can be paired with an ANT+ heart rate monitor strap if required to add an extra dimension to your training.

The Vivosmart also makes use of it’s internal accelerometer to give running speed, distance and pace.

The Vivosmart also features a convenient FIND MY PHONE mode that shows you with arrows and bars the approximate location of your phone.

And finally.. for those who cycle, the Vivosmart can be paired with a Garmin bike speed sensor to give cycle speed and distance data.

    Next Model DOWN

I am afraid there isn’t really anything more entry level than the VivoFit 2. You can still find the original Vivofit (1) on Amazon if you want to save a few £££’s.
